High in the clouds of Faerieland (well, it doesn't look like it's fallen that far) is a game that mixes luck and skill, a place where one can spend a lot of time (but limited action!) seeing that unwanted bubbles disappear from Faerieland. A game called... Faerie Bubbles.
Instructions
The goal of the game is to clear each level (there are 20 in all) of bubbles by putting together three (or more) of the same bubble type. You use the arrow keys on your keyboard to change the angle of the bubble gun, and press the space bar to fire a bubble. Instead of a time limit, your moves are limited - every few moves a bar from the top will press down a notch. For the first four levels it moves down every 6 moves, after that it moves down every 5. If one of the bubbles hits the bottom of the screen, it's game over! You also win bonus points for finishing a level in limited moves - an added incentive!
In the first level, you get a set of guidelines, which show you exactly where the bubble you fire will land - after that, it's up to you!
Bubbles and Combos
There are six different types of regular bubbles - Water, Fire, Light, Dark, Earth, and Air. Grouping three bubbles of the same type will simply cause the bubbles to disappear. If you get four or more together, though, watch out! Results may vary...
Note: If all the bubbles that a bubble is attached to disappear (and it's not touching the top), that bubble will fall as well!
Good Combos
A water combination destroys all water bubbles on the screen. If you have two in your cannon but you only need one to complete the combo, you can just shoot the first water bubble anywhere so it doesn't touch the others, and use the second to finish off the combo.
Neopets Faerie Bubbles Cheats
Fire burns all non-water bubbles that touch the combo. This is the best possible combo in the game—try to trigger as many of these as you can in your game; it will be a big help in finishing the levels off quickly.
Bad Combos
Air fills in the empty spaces of the lines the combo touches with more random bubbles! However, if you make a complete line of air bubbles so that there are no gaps for new bubbles to pop into, then the only thing that will happen is that the entire line will disappear. It's worth it to note that in some later levels, you may get a line entirely of air—if you hit it anywhere with an air bubble, all the bubbles below it will fall!
Earth makes a new line of bubbles appear on top. This one can vary—it may give you a nice combo, but it's more likely to give you bubbles you don't want! Even if the earth combo is the last set of bubbles you have to clear in a level, a new line will still appear—no getting off easy!
Good or Bad ('Chaotic') Combo
Light changes all bubbles touching the combo into one random color, which is good or bad depending on what color they turn into.
Dark bubbles in the combo all turn into random types when the combo is activated. This can be a problem when you have a lot of bubbles, or when you're pretty close to the bottom, but if you take the right chances (and with a ton of luck), you can use this combo to your advantage. I'd advise trying to get rid of any air or earth bubbles touching the combo first, as this can minimize your chances of negative combos. Note: Dark combos will never turn into Dark or special bubbles
We may be tempermental, but that doesn't always mean bad.
There are more chances for combos to go bad than good, so watch out! If you're on an early level, it may be worth it simply to restart the game until you get a good set. In the early levels, the chances of a positive layout are much higher than the negative ones - make sure you practice working with what you're given!
The Special Bubbles
The Nova Bubble destroys all bubbles within a two bubble radius of wherever it touches.
The Rainbow Bubble takes on the colour of the bubble it touches first.
Scoring
With an avatar at stake and a somewhat more difficult path to max NP payout (not to mention a super-cool trophy!), finding a way to maximize your points can be pivotal. Unlike some games (such as Spinacles), you can't stay on one level forever, racking up points. Not only will you risk your survival, but you'll also be sacrificing bonus points!
The main scoring is pretty basic - you get 1 point for every bubble that falls or is otherwise destroyed. If you activate a combo, you'll also earn an additional 5 points. Once you finish a level, you also may earn bonus points, depending on how many moves it required. You'll see all of these points on a screen that shows up after a level is complete.
As long as you've finished the level properly (and in fewer than 35 moves), you'll be awarded a bonus based on the number of moves it took you to complete. Here's a handy-dandy chart!
Number of Moves | Bonus |
1 | 250 |
2 | 175 |
3 | 150 |
4 | 125 |
5 | 100 |
6 | 90 |
7 | 80 |

Tips
Faerie Bubbles looks like a simple game at first glance, but that can be deceptive! Here are a few more things to help you out along the way.
- If your bubble gun becomes 'stuck' press the left or right arrow key and then the up arrow key. Pressing the up arrow key is also useful if you have to shoot a bubble into a void in the exact middle of a row - it brings your gun directly back to center.
- The bar at the top moves down every 6 shots for the first four levels, and every 5 after that, regardless of whether you manage combos or sets. The exception comes when you have only one colour of bubble left. At that point, it will move down every 3 shots.
Cheat Codes
Each of these official cheat codes will work once per game. It's to your advantage to wait until you absolutely HAVE to use them to continue.
- Typing 'stardust' turns the current bubble in your cannon into a Nova Bubble.
- Typing 'faerieland' turns the current bubble in your cannon into a Rainbow Bubble.
- Typing 'slumberberry' will make the bar pushing the bubbles down return to the top. Most useful when you're 1 push away from dying.
- Typing 'bubbles' turns all of the bubbles into one type. However, there is a downside to this one. Sometimes, it will change all the bubbles into a Nova or Rainbow bubble! To counter this, use the stardust or faerieland cheat to create the necessary bubble to pop them all. And in other cases, of course, you wind up with a type of bubble you don't want.
As an example, if you get really, really stuck on a level a good combination of cheats to use would be 'bubbles', followed by 'faerieland' if you don't have the proper bubble coming up in time.

- 1How to play
How to play[edit]
The aim of the game is to clear all faerie bubbles from the screen before they pass the red penalty line. Users must group at least three bubbles of the same type together, which will make those bubbles pop. Bubbles are shot from the bubble cannon, which is guided by the left and right arrow keys, centered with the up arrow, and fires bubbles with the space bar. Besides directly shooting a bubble, users can bounce them off the wall, which can help reach areas which would be impossible as a straight shot. After a certain number of shots, the ceiling will lower, bringing the bubbles closer, and if any of the bubbles should pass below the penalty line, the game ends.
If a user gets four or more bubbles of the same type together it will set off a combo, which gives special affects depending on the type of faerie bubble. The Dark, Earth, and Air combinations are considered to be bad while the Fire, Water, and Light are considered good (the Light faerie bubble is debatable due to its random nature, which can sometimes ruin or save gameplay). Their affects are...
- Water - Destroys all water bubbles no matter where they are on the screen.
- Light - Changes all bubbles touching the combo to a single random faerie bubble.
- Fire - Destroys all non-water bubbles that touch the combo.
- Air - Will fill the whole line of each bubble with random bubbles.
- Earth - Makes a new line of bubbles appear at the top of the screen.
- Dark - All the bubbles in the combo will turn to random bubble types.
The bubble cannon used in the game has the ability to show which two bubbles are going to be fired after the current one, a feature used to make a strategy. At random, the cannon will sometimes give two special types of faerie bubbles to fire, which give the game a sense of randomness. They are...
- Nova - Destroys all bubbles within two bubbles of where it lands.
- Rainbow - Turns into the same type of bubble it touches first.
Neopets Faerie Bubbles Avatar
A single game can consists of 20 levels, and users can pause gameplay by clicking the 'X' in the top left hand corner of the screen to use certain options, such as turn music off and end the game. A user's score is decided by the number of bubbles they pop and how many bubbles they used to complete the level. The less bubbles, the higher the bonus will be.
Codes[edit]
- bubbles - Makes every bubble on the screen exactly the same. Can only be used once per play.
- faerieland - Turns the current bubble in the bubble cannon into a Rainbow bubble. Can only be used once per play.
- slumberberry - Raises the ceiling all the way back to the top. Can only be used once per play.
- stardust - Turns the current bubble in the bubble cannon into a Nova bubble. Can only be used once per play.
Trivia[edit]
- Scoring over 2,000 points will reward users with the Faerie Bubblesavatar, released on February 13, 2006.
- The following characters had their score featured in Better Than You...
- Psellia - June 23, 2005, August 30, 2007, January 27, 2011
- Nereid - October 23, 2008
- Casandia - February 28, 2013
- At the game start screen, if the user clicks the speck of fire on the first lower-case 'b' in 'Bubbles', TPOSG will briefly appear on the bottom right corner with water, earth and fire bubbles.
- Faerie Bubbles was featured in the Games Master Challenge and Daily Dare.
- The fact that a water combo causes all water bubbles to fall is based on the scientific fact of capillary action and hydrogen bonds, in which water molecules adhere to each other so the movement of one molecule causes other molecules to follow.
- It's quite possible the game is based off the 'Faerie Bubble' Faerie Fooditems (flavours later collected in Delicious Faerie Bubbles, released February 2, 2004). There are also other items which feature Faerie Bubbles, such as a Book titled Faerie Bubbles (released January 27, 2004), which is said to give 'Excellent strategies for the best score in the least moves possible'. However, reading this or having this in a user's inventory does not affect gameplay. A Faerie Bubble Bracelet and Faerie Bubble Blower were also released as prizes for Daily Dare.
- An error experienced with the pop-up menus was fixed on May 31, 2004.
- Fully translated into into Chinese (simplified and traditional), French, German, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Korean and Japanese on August 10, 2004.
- The Faerie Bubbles Screensaver was released on September 21, 2004.
